We are a family of four, situated on a beef cattle property near Dingo in Central Queensland. We are looking for someone who would love to spend some quality time with our 3.5 year old son, Pat, who has been diagnosed ASD2-3. He is a happy, inquisative little boy, who loves machinary, numbers and shapes. This is a flexible position, with plenty of time to explore the local area. Separate, self contained accommodation provided.
Our Family.
We have two wonderful kids; Georgie, 6 years, attends Prep in Dingo, and Pat, 3 years, has been diagnosed Autistic. Dad (Ed) works on neighbouring family properties, whilst Mum (Casey) stays home to run our business and look after Pat.
We are an easy going and respectful family. We have had part time nannies in the past along with RFCS educators, and we can provide references if required.
We love our cows and enjoy spending time outdoors.
Why we need your help.
We can see that there would be so much benefit for Pat to have more one-on-one interaction to help him reach his full potential. He is currently pre-verbal, however, he communicates well with gestures etc. He is a genuinely happy little boy who loves books, numbers, shapes and drawing. He does attend speech, physio and occupational therapy once a fortnight, where Casey tries to pick up as many techniques as possible to aid in Pat’s development. However, Casey, is struggling to manage giving Pat enough time, with also doing all the business book work, running the household, and supporting Georgie with school…there just isn’t enough hours in the day!!
Who we are looking for.
We are determined to give Pat the skills to reach his full potential and to live a full and happy life. We are looking for someone who would be like to work alongside Mum to implement therapy based strategies to help Pat gain the skills necessary for attending the local primary school in years to come. The ideal educator would focus on Pat’s many passions; numbers, machinery, shapes and books to increase his skills across many developmental areas.
It would be amazing if you already had experience with working with special needs children, however, more than anything you just need to love kids, and have a genuine interest in helping Pat thrive.
We do require you have a bluecard (or equivalent) and first aid certificate.
We believe that this could be a really rewarding placement.
Why you will love where we live.
We live on 10 000 acres of lightly developed grazing land, so there is plenty of space to explore. Our closest tourist attraction is the Blackdown Tablelands, which offers great bushwalking (less than an hour away). We are located approximately two hours drive from Rockhampton, to the East. and to Emerald to the West.
Rockhampton & the Capricorn Coast
Rockhampton has lots of history along with a free zoo located at the botanical gardens. There is lots going on, with plenty of places to eat out.
The capricorn coast is only 30min from Rocky, with beautiful beaches and islands.
The Capricorn Caves are also just outside of Rockhampton.
Emerald, the Gemfields and Western Qld
Emerald is a really nice country town. It offers all the essentials. It is also the gateway to the Sapphire Gemfields were you can try some fossicking.
If you’re keen to go further west Alpha and Longreach are located further along the Capricorn Highway.
What’s Included
Separate accommodation is provided near the main homestead. It is only a few years old and very comfortable with one bedroom, kitchen/living area and bathroom. Wifi/internet, electricity and water are all included. We are happy to include you in our meals, or you can cater for yourself.
We are also happy to include you in any trips to town that we are making or adventures around the property.
In closing,
We are more then happy to provide further information on request.
